The Kinsmen, Kinette and Kin Clubs of Canada invited Hannah Taylor from the Ladybug Foundation to make a presentation at our 2005 National Convention in St. John's Newfoundland on August 17th, 2005.
The Ladybug Foundation spreads awareness and raises funds to assist charitable organizations which provide food, shelter and other needs of the homeless and near homeless in Canada, without judgement, so they can find dignity, security, hope and refuge.
After her presentation, individual members of our organization from all across Canada donated over $1900.00 to the Ladybug Foundation over the following three days of the convention.
In addition, several of the delegates in attendance made donations on behalf of their home clubs. The Kinsmen Club of Winnipeg encouraged this by promising to match all the funds raised at the convention, up to $5,000.
The final donations were as follows:
$ 1,448.00 (Individual Donations Day 1)
$ 500.00 (Kinette Club of Dryden, ON)
$ 466.89 (Individual Donations Day 3)
$ 500.00 (Edmonton Kinsmen)
$ 500.00 (Red Deer Kinsmen)
$ 500.00 (Edmonton Kinettes)
$ 300.00 (Fort Edmonton Kin Club)
$ 300.00 (Estherhazy Kin Club)
$ 300.00 (Kitchener-Waterloo Kin Club)
$ 575.00 (Calgary Kinsmen from Convention Fines)
---------
$ 5,389.89 Sub-Total
$ 5,000.00 Winnipeg Kinsmen
---------
$10,389.89 Grand Total
Thanks to all the individuals and clubs that made this impromptu fundraiser such a huge success!

$ 7,000.00 in Service Donations to Health Sciences Centre Referrals
|
|
The Kinsmen Club of Winnipeg regularly receives requests from Social Workers at the Health Sciences Centre for donations towards patients in need. Our club has donated to several such requests last month.
Lana is a new cancer patient, who until recently provided care for her husband with cerebral palsy. She has requested the use of a motorized scooter for the duration of her treatments. After that time, she will return the scooter to us, and we will then donate it to the Society for Manitobans for Disabilities. We have also aided Lana and her husband for the next few months with medication and groceries. (approx $3000)
Brendan is an 84 year old patient at Health Sciences Centre, and has had both his legs amputated. While in his wheelchair, it is difficult for him to adjust himself and shift his weight in his seat to prevent sores from developing. We have provided funding for a specialized cushion and backrest that will help prevent these sores from developing, as well as make him as comfortable as possible (approx $1500)
Linda is a single lady who requires the use of a wheelchair to stay mobile. Unfortunately, her wheelchair does not always suit her needs in various ways. She has requested a motorized scooter to aid her in her every day life, which we have provided. (approx $2500)
Special thanks to Kinsmen members Vince Thiessen, Len Pugh, and William Horner for researching and bringing up these service requests.

Fun Meeting July 25th 2005 - Harbour View Golf Course
 Address: 1867 Springfield Road
Winnipeg, Mb

Hello fellow Kin, Tim Gadsby here presenting you with an idea for our first General Meeting on July 25th. I would like to plan a fun 9-hole golf event at Harbour View Golf Course before we have our General Meeting. If enough Kin are intersted - we will golf 9 holes and then proceed with our meeting at Harbour View afterwards.
Here is the plan: We will be having a tee off time at 5:00pm, with our General Meeting to follow afterwards (around 7:30pm). Green fees will be approx. $10.
Harbour View is located about 5 minutes north of Regent Avenue on Lagimodiere Blvd. If you are travelling north the golf course is located on the right hand side. Give me a call if you need more precise directions.
***UPDATE***
For a few of you who said they could not golf because of the start time - there is now the option of arriving a bit later (5:30 or 6:00pm at the latest) and joining us for the meeting after you finish your 9 holes of golf. The green fees are $8.50 per person and we will be ordering from the restaurant menu before the meeting.
If this changes any of your minds, please get back to me as soon as possible in whether you can join us on this day.
List of who is confirmed to Golf: Vince, Raj, Tim, Terry, Ken, Burk, Garry, Buy, Brad, Lorne, Peter (and Son in Law) & Brian
List of those only attending the meeting: Len & Paul.
** On a side note, I am looking for some volunteers to help out at a summer golf day camp Special Olympics is doing for our younger athletes. The session is 8:30am until 2:30pm (Friday July 15) at Harbour View Golf Course. You don't have to know anything about golf - I would just like a couple of you guys out there to hand golf balls to the athletes, help on the driving range, help with the mini-golfing and walk alongside a group of athletes when we hit the course up. **
Please let me know if any of you can help out.

Bonkowski Family Update
|
|
We originally offered assistance to the Bonkowski family late last year. (see the "Website" link above)
We assisted their family again with some gift certificates from Wal-Mart and Safeway.
Here is a Thank You letter from their family. It is always nice to hear from people we have helped, and we wish the Bonkowski children all the best.

Kin Kar 2005 Raffle Proceeds

Wow! We've had another successful year with our Kin Kar Raffle.
As you may already know, dozens of groups around Manitoba sell our raffle tickets, earning them 50% of their ticket sales. These groups include sports teams, schools, parent associations, charities, and many other non-profit organizations.
In addition to this, other Kinsmen and Kinette clubs in Manitoba sell our Kin Kar raffle tickets as well. This also earns them 50% of their ticket sales, and the other 50% is donated to the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation on behalf of their club.
This year (from September 2004 to June 2005) groups around Manitoba sold nearly $64,000 in our raffle tickets, earning them nearly $32,000!!!
In addition, other Kinsmen and Kinette clubs in the province sold nearly $20,000 in our raffle tickets, earning them $10,000 as well as raising $10,000 for the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation!
This makes a total of $42,000 raised for groups across Manitoba, as well as an additional $10,000 for Cystic Fibrosis!
Of course, once the prizes and other expenses are paid, and we add up our sales at the Red River Exhibition, we will post more updates on where the proceeds will be donated towards.
We'd like to thank all the people in Manitoba that bought one of our Kin Kar tickets from one of these groups.
We'd also like to thank all the groups that participated in the Kin Kar Raffle and helped make it such a huge success!
