$30,000.00 to the Community Cadet Corps

Address:

Winnipeg Police Service

Phone:

With children as young as 10 involved in gang activity, community leaders are always looking for a way to stem the violence.

Although many might think a program with military uniforms and community activities may be viewed as too geeky to attract teen interest, that's not so. For the Elmwood community, the cadet program has received an enthusiastic response from dozens of Elmwood students between 11 and 17 years of age.

The organization develops leadership skills, as well as requiring regular school attendance and community service. The cadets are also involved in various learning programs and activities, such as first-aid certificates and sports programs. Most of all, it lets teens be proud of themselves for something positive.

Communities involved in the program can potentially see their crime rates drop, while cadets see their school marks rise.

The Kinsmen Club of Winnipeg has set aside $30,000.00 to go towards various communities in Winnipeg that are looking to start their own Community Cadet Corps. We will also partner with and be heavily involved in the various programs in these communities.

Special Thanks to Kinsmen Member Burkhardt Faller for researching and bringing forward this worthy cause.

The Kinsmen Club of Winnipeg has donated $3,000.00 towards the Joints in Motion fundraiser for the Arthritis Society.

All monies raised will finance research and training programs in 17 Canadian medical centers. This support allows physicians and researchers to increase their knowledge on arthritis and contributes to increase family doctors awareness on arthritis. The campaign will also help to set foot on self-help community programs and to provide information on the disease and its treatment for those patients suffering from arthritis.

Special Thanks to Kinsmen member Guy Madill for researching and bringing forward this worthy cause.
