The Kinsmen Club of Winnipeg, using funds from Kinsmen Jackpot Bingo, have purchased a brand new 5-ton truck for Winnipeg Harvest. This truck will be used for the pickup and delivery of large quantities of food throughout Winnipeg.

The truck was purchased from Vickar Community Chevrolet, and will be delivered to Winnipeg Harvest in the next few days. Vickar Community Chevrolet has also aided in offsetting some of the cost of the truck, which can retail for as high as $100,000.00 from many suppliers.

Winnipeg Harvest is a non-profit, community-based organization. It is committed to providing food to people who struggle to feed themselves and their families. It is also committed to maximizing public awareness of hunger while working towards long-term solutions to hunger and poverty.

Special thanks to Kinsmen member Terry Genik for the numerous hours of research and discussion involved in bringing forward this service request.

The Kinsmen Club of Winnipeg has donated $5000.00 towards the 15th Annual Peter Gzowski Invitational (PGI) Golf Tournament for Literacy. We will also have 4 members taking part in the tournament, as well as having other members volunteer at the event. The event will take place on Monday, June 13th 2005 at the Elmhurst Golf and Country Club. (10:30am Registration, 12:30pm Tee-off)

At least one in six adult Manitobans has severe difficulty using written materials to perform routine tasks. Another one in six has moderate difficulty. Low literacy costs Canadian society approximately $10.7 billion annually, with Manitoba's share of this cost adding up to over $375 million each year.

The late broadcaster Peter Gzowski founded the PGIs in 1986. To date they’ve raised more than $7 million for adult learners, including more than $240,000 in Manitoba. The funds raised support the LEARN line, learner bursaries and Literacy Partners of Manitoba lending library.

The Kinsmen Club of St. John’s, which is celebrating its 65th year in the association, is proud to invite you to attend National Convention 2005 – “Been Away Too Long-St. John’s."

The Kinsmen Club of St. John’s was chartered in 1939, ten years before Newfoundland and Labrador joined confederation. It was and remains the only club ever chartered outside of Canadian soil.

St. John’s is the “City of Legends.” Our culture is rich and the pulse of the city is felt in every restaurant, tourist attraction and throughout world renowned George Street, every summer night! You can sit on a patio and enjoy the local culture and dance the night away at some of the hottest nightclubs in the country!

The Convention Hotel is the Holiday Inn. This award-winning hotel is perfect for our convention. It features “East Side Mario’s” Italian restaurant, an in-ground pool, new modern guest rooms and all related guest services.

The Hillview Terrace Suites, only a 5 minute walk from the host hotel, provides 2 and three bedroom fully furnished apartments. With four sharing a two bedroom apartment, your accommodations can be as little as $25.00/night plus tax! The convention committee will be providing transportation to all scheduled events.

Memorial University, also only a ten-minute walk from the convention hotel, offers limited dormitory rooms during the summer months. St.John's has many other fine hotels and bed and breakfast facilities to choose from.

Many events are being held at the St. John's Curling Club. This venue provides ample space for meetings, meals and great fellowship. The entertainment will be the best in the province. This is one convention you will not want to miss.
Use our convention planner on this site. You can browse and book everything from hotels to whale watching tours.

Fellow Kin, in 1975, our club hosted the first national convention in Newfoundland and Labrador: “...

The Kinsmen Club of Winnipeg will be volunteering at the Great Strides Walk for Cystic Fibrosis. We will also be providing several raffle draw prizes, including a beautiful Stainless Steel BBQ valued at approximately $1000.

Since 1986, Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CCFF) chapter members have teamed up with community partners, to participate in an annual family-oriented walk campaign, to raise funds in support of the fight against cystic fibrosis.

The Great Strides™ walk, held on the last Sunday of May, is the CCFF's Canada-wide, group fundraising event. All money raised through pledges and donations will be used by the CCFF to fund CF research and treatment programs at over 38 Canadian CF clinics, five transplant centres.

The CCFF is pleased to bring the Great Strides™ campaign to Canada, through our friendship with the United States Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF), which manages over 550 Great Strides™ events in the U.S., annually. Over the years, such walk events have proven to be the perfect opportunity for local supporters to make a difference in the lives of those living with cystic fibrosis.

Please join us on Sunday, May 29, 2005, as thousands of Canadians walk with their family members, friends, neighbours and colleagues during a fun-filled day.

Together, we are taking steps to cure cystic fibrosis.
