City Farm is a unique, urban response to a contemporary societal dilemma where our citizens, particularly young people, lack opportunities to:

* Connect with nature
* Engage in recreational activities in an adventurous way
* Connect with the growing and harvesting of their food nutrition and hence a rural farm experience, and
* Participate in community democracy and transformation

City Farm works to provide a range of farmed based activity opportunities to meet these societal shortcomings in support of both individual and community development – on a daily basis. Success in other jurisdictions such as Europe and Scandinavia, have ensured widespread support of these initiatives with significant user visits and associated outcomes.

Cityfarm has undertaken a substantial review of City Farm conceptual underpinnings and logistical requirements to provide a sustainable, urban City Farm initiative. Putting those learnings into practice we now have three successful seasons of operation under our belts. Our organization is pleased to support the provision of a City Farm experience in Winnipeg through Cityfarm Day Winnipeg.

As envisioned, Cityfarm Day Winnipeg will showcase core City Farm based activity offerings as a way for the local community to get a sense of the look and feel of such an initiative. As such, the event will be designed to allow the community to experience a City Farm setting similar to those found extensively throughout Europe and now in Edmonton:

* Engage in a more adventurous way, day-to-day activities that are typical of those found on the farm.
* Participant engagement in the various activities on their own terms versus being formally led through set activities. In this way leaders must be adept at animating the spaces and will be oriented accordingly.
* Transformation of the each designated space into a special ‘place’ for participants as well as an overall transformation of the ...

The Grand prize offers the winner and guest a choice of several Sports and Entertainment trips that are nearly impossible to obtain tickets for. These include: Oprah Winfrey, Emmy Awards, Grammy Awards, Country Music Awards, ProBowl, Stanley Cup Finals, US Open, World Series, and the Daytona 500.

Tickets for this unique raffle which have never been available before in Manitoba are being marketed at 3 for $5.00. Your organization can obtain the tickets from us to sell by your members. The Kinsmen Club of Winnipeg, and Kinsmen Jackpot Bingo, have committed to spending up to $100,000 on merchandise with a retail company. These funds will be used to match funds spent by the public of up to $100,000. The hope is to raise the full $200,000 to serve the greatest needs of Manitoba’s communities.

The purpose of this project is to fulfill the needs of a number of larger Manitoba organizations. These may include The Ladybug Foundation (homeless shelters), Child and Family Services (CFS), The Manitoba Association of Women’s Shelters, and Winnipeg Harvest (food bank). The intention is to create separate gift registries for each of these organizations which they will then add items to based on the needs that they hope to fulfill. Items may be specified for the Christmas season or could be used to fill a year round need. Items could include such things as toys, clothing, books, and any other necessities that will help underprivileged children feel like kids again.

We will be advertising this project throughout the province of Manitoba, appealing to the public to purchase items on these registries. It is our hope that the general public will make purchases either in-store or through a website. At vital times throughout the year, our organization will be evaluating the purchases made by the general public and matching donations dollar for dollar in a way that best meets the needs of the organization in question. We are very excited about the potential that this project has. We hope that it will benefit the communities of Manitoba as much as we think it can.

If you know of an organization in your community that could benefit from such a program, please contact the Kinsmen Jackpot Bingo office at 204-233-6365

CAMBRIDGE, ON, Aug. 24 /CNW/ - Kin Canada presented a ceremonial cheque in the amount of $1 billion to the People of Canada and The World during its annual convention held in Saint John, New Brunswick last week.
The cheque, representing the cumulative amount given by Kin to Canadian and international communities since 1920, was presented to Intergovernmental Affairs Minister Michael Chong on Aug. 18 during the Association's Service Gala, which recognizes the service work performed throughout the year by Kinsmen, Kinette, and Kin clubs.
"This staggering amount of money clearly demonstrates the phenomenal impact that volunteer efforts have had on Canadian communities," says Kin Canada Executive Director Ric McDonald. "Reaching the $1 billion mark is a tremendous achievement for a Canadian service organization."
Every year, Kin clubs contribute millions of dollars to Canadian communities. Last year more than $16 million was raised nationally; to say nothing of the countless volunteer hours spent on fundraising and service projects.
Kin Canada also raises, on average, $1 million annually for the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, making Kin the largest single fundraising organization for CF research in Canada. Since 1964, Kinsmen and Kinettes have donated more than $34 million towards CF research.
"Our legacy has been one of consistent and significant contribution to Canadian communities. In light of the ever increasing demands on community resources, the impact of our service work cannot be ignored and Kin is committed to building on that legacy," says McDonald.
In fulfilling its motto of 'Serving the Community's Greatest Need,' Kin's 86-year history of service accomplishments include the $3 million raised to purchase and ship 50 million quarts of milk to British children during the Second World War; the $68 million raised through Saskatchewan-based Telemiracle annual telethons since their inception in 1977; the ...
