The Kinsmen Club of Winnipeg has donated $25,000 to Camp Manitou.  The Kinsmen originally agreed to match pledges raised by the Color Me Rad run for Camp Manitou, but due to difficulties in dealing with the Color Me Rad organization we have decided to make a straight donation as of October 2013.

Camp Manitou was founded in 1930 by the following six service clubs: Rotary Club of Winnipeg, Kinsmen Club of Winnipeg, Cosmopolitan Club of Winnipeg, Kiwanis Club of Winnipeg, Optimist Club of Winnipeg, and the YMCA. It was incorporated as a non-profit charitable organization in 1949 with the mission to provide an enriching camping experience for children and youth would not otherwise have the opportunity or resources to do so. Lion’s Club of Winnipeg joined as a member in 1953.

Since 1997, after the YMCA left, the Service Clubs of Winnipeg have carried on the tradition and have enabled over 50,000 at risk children and youth to enjoy a healthy and exciting camp experience.

This past summer, Camp Manitou had just over 4,000 of children and youth at risk in Manitoba with their 42 different organizations attend.

Camp Manitou’s approach differs dramatically from that of a traditional summer camp with individual children registering. Our unique model of the camping experience during the summer is to work exclusively with Manitoba youth serving non-profit organizations to bring out their children and youth from their community programs as well as schools. We provide great leadership, wonderful activities and nutritious food.
